Chris Chun is an Australian-Chinese artist working between Asia and Melbourne, best known for his contemporary reimagining of Chinoiserie - a style his growing collector base, the 'Chunistas', have come to call 'Chunoiserie'. With a background in textile design, having worked in some of Europe's top textile studios where his work informed collections for Armani, Etro and Missoni, Chris brings a rare fusion of fine arts discipline and international design pedigree to his paintings. His practice draws on Chinese heritage, Asian folklore and a restless curiosity for travel, translated through vivid colour, layered symbolism and intricate detail.

In 2024, Chris was commissioned by the City of Melbourne to create a series of works for Chinatown, celebrating the Year of the Wood Dragon - a public art project that placed his work in dialogue with the city's Chinese-Australian community and history. His recent 'Into the Blue' series explores the blue-and-white traditions of Chinese porcelain through a menagerie of sea creatures drawn from Asian mythology, marking his ongoing evolution as a painter beyond decorative patterns into narrative fine art, and continues to grow as new works join the collection. He also has collaborated with the Museum of Chinese Australian History, further anchoring his practice within cultural institutions rather than purely commercial contexts.

Chris's work has been featured in Vogue, Elle Decor and Travel + Leisure, and he exhibits internationally as a fine artist alongside his design collaborations.
