From the Artist...
This bee-eater is native to North Africa and sits on a gilded frame, which encloses Henri Matisse's Odalisque à la culotte rouge. Matisse produced more than 50 paintings on this theme of harem women, exploring pattern, fabric, interiors, and the reclining female figure. The wallpaper is from 1860 and is based on a design manufactured by Zuber.
